Bradford Bike Waste
Bradford-grown not-for-profit organisation, Cycle-Re-Cycle, has become so popular that is is calling out for new volunteers. Cycle-Re-Cycle is voluntary-lead and recycles old and unwanted bicycles as well as parts, accessories and cycling clothing – aiming to reduce waste caused by discarded bicycles. The spiked increase comes after they held a ‘bike amnesty’ last month, where Bradford residents handed over unwanted bicycles or brought their old ones in for a makeover. Last year’s amnesty sold them 206 recycled bikes while this years saw sales figures of 238 and counting.
Chairman, Chris Evans said “being popular is fantastic but it has brought us a problem that we are desperate for volunteer bicycle mechanics and an administrator as we generate a lot of records that need entering onto our database.”
Evans added “We need more bodies because the signs are that we are going to get even busier.”
